Qwirkle Board Game and Qwirkle Cubes

Qwirkle comes in two different versions – a board game (but there is no board as in the true board sense) and also Qwirkle Cubes.
On this page we will be mainly talking about Qwirkle – the board game version.  Qwirkle

When it comes to playing family games, especially on family game night, you want to make sure that you have the right kind of games to include the whole family no matter what their age or skill level may be.

Many times it can be difficult to find a type of game that will entertain younger children as well as teens and adults.
One of these types of  games is called Qwirkle and this game is both fun, entertaining and enjoyable for all who play.

Although it’s not a new game it may be one that you might not have heard of before since it has not been advertised as much as more expensive games.

This game can be played by 2 to 4 players ages about 6 years old and up.
Each game only lasts about 45 minutes so even younger ones will keep their attention.
The game includes 108 wooden blocks and you play by arranging colors and designs in a strategic manner.  It won the Mensa Best Mind Game Award in 2007 as well as the Major Fun Award in the same year. In addition, it has won an award from Games Magazine as the Best Family Game Runner-up in 2007.

However, don’t let the Mensa Best Game Award scare you off – it is a very simple game to learn and play so younger children will not have a hard time keeping up. Qwirkle however, is a strategy game and those who are older can plan and optimize their steps against their opponents and this is where this game shines. Who would have thought that a game so simple could also be so involved?

The Object of Qwirkle

Game play is simple- but takes creativity and brain power to master.  It combines both logic and strategy and that is what keeps the older kids wanting to play more and more.
The rules are very easy to learn which makes it a great type of a game for your younger children.

Although the game seems to quite simple to play, Qwirkle allows children and adults alike to use their skills of logic and strategy to plan maneuvers to win the game. The winner is the one that has accumulated the most points.  After a few games you will start to see how you can try to think a few steps ahead ( like in chess) so that you can plan on how you will be using your tiles in with the game.

After winning a Parents’ Choice Gold Award, it become a hot game for family game night and the popularity has not slowed down .  Since it is a game that both younger and older children can play ( in addition to their parents) is a good game for the entire family. You’ll find too, that the game doesn’t take that long to play, so you can easily squeeze in a game with your family and still get a chance to get to any other tasks that you may need to do while the night is still young.

If you already have this game, then you might want to go to the next level by playing Qwirkle Cubes.

Qwirkle Cubes

This game is the follow-up to the original and uses cubes instead of blocks. There are also less pieces to use in the game which can make this game both easier and harder than the original.  The games do differ a bit so if one was to pick up both games it would not be redundant and both games would be played like to different unique games – yet they do have some similar qualities.
